Ever wonder where the word "Donut" came from?

The Dutch are credited with bringing donuts to the U.S. in the 1800s. They were first called “olykoeks”, or oily cakes. Apparently, the world of marketing hadn’t become important. Not exactly a drool-inducing name. It’s OK….they taste good.

Ever wonder why donuts have holes in the middle?

The hole in the center of donuts appeared in the first half of the 19th Century. The hole allows the donut to cook more evenly.


The largest doughnut ever made was an American-style jelly doughnut. It weighed 1.7 tons, was 16ft wide and 16inches high. It was made in Utica, New York, USA on January 21, 1993.
